In two 4x4 digit grids, three neighbouring cells across or down make a three-digit number. A triple starting with 0 is not a three-digit number. In grid (1) list the numbers whose tens digit is greater than 7, and in grid (2) those whose digits add to 5.

Strategy Make a Systematic List — There are only 16 triples per grid, so I list every horizontal and vertical triple in order, then keep the ones that satisfy the condition and drop the rest. Listing rows first, then columns, guarantees none are missed or repeated.

Each grid yields only 16 triples, and I checked all of them in both directions, so the lists are complete. For (1) every kept number has a middle digit of 8 or 9 (186, 391, 593). For (2) every kept number's digits add to 5 (1+1+3, 1+3+1, 2+1+2, 2+3+0). The worked example 391 from the figure appears in answer (1), confirming the reading rule.
