Where this work goes
Depth is the school curriculum taken one level deeper. The shapes your kid meets here are the shapes the AMC asks about later. Rather than ask you to take that on faith, this page lays out the map so you can check it.
The short version
- 338 of the 427 problem types here carry forward into a named AMC shape.
- 41 curriculum archetypes converge into 19 contest archetypes, across 75 pairs.
- None of this is contest prep. It is the school curriculum taken seriously, and that turns out to be the same road.
What that looks like
Each name on the right opens the real past AMC problems that carry that shape.
Why the shapes repeat
A contest problem is rarely harder arithmetic. It is the same structure with the scaffolding taken away. A kid who worked out in grade 3 how to count every triangle in a figure without missing one meets that same demand at fifteen, in a busier picture, and recognizes it. That is the difference between learning something new and recognizing something known.
So there is no moment where you need to switch over to contest prep. What your kid is doing now is already that preparation.
