List multiples of 7 between 30 and 50
The multiples of 7 in range are 35, 42, 49.
Using the divisibility-by-7 rule first is smart because it leaves only three numbers to check instead of all 19 numbers from 31 to 49.

Each candidate just needs one small subtraction to prepare it for the last test.

Only 40 divides by 5, so the number is 42.
Numbers divisible by 5 always end in 0 or 5, so I can spot the survivor at a glance and eliminate the other two.

Why?
Every ten is itself a multiple of 5, so everything above the ones place already divides cleanly and only the last digit can spoil it.

The two candidates whose last digit fails are crossed out at once, leaving exactly one number standing.
Start with the pickiest clue (divisible by 7) to get just a few candidates, then knock them out one by one - that is Grade 3 multiplication facts at work!
