Two number-riddle questions about an unknown number. (1) Taking the number away from 40 lands on the same value as adding the number to 32; find the number. (2) Adding the number to 65 gives a result that is 18 more than subtracting the same number from 65; find the number.

The unknown shifts both expressions by equal steps, so the gap is built only from the unknown.

Stepping left from 40 and right from 32 by the same amount lands on the same point.
