Fill grades 2 and 5 from grade 4
From grade 4 = 6 come grade 2 = 5 and grade 5 = 7.
These two cells are pinned by simple 'one more / one less' relationships - no searching needed.

Every student belongs to exactly one grade, so the six grade counts add back to the Total with nothing missing or doubled.

Knowing the whole and four of the six parts, subtracting returns what the last two parts come to together.

Grade 6 needs 8+ and grade 3 needs 4+, leaving only grade 3 = 4, grade 6 = 8.
There are only a few ways to split 12 into two grades; checking them against 'fewest = grade 1, most = grade 6' leaves a single valid table.
